Richmond Senior High School's October Beta of the Month is Anna Reyes. Anna is a 12th Grader that dedicates her time to education and helping others. A great example of what it really means to be a young philanthropist, she's participated in Beta events like Stuff the Bus, Dannell Ellerbe and Melvin Ingram's Football Camps, #RaidersForRobeson and much more. Anna spends all of her free time at the Learning House in Dobbins Heights. And, while here, she's able to tutor and care for children who need somewhere to go after school. Additionally, Anna's been instrumental in recently collecting supplies for our Lumberton neighbors in need. She's definitely left her mark on RSHS, and we can’t wait to see what she does next! Congrats, Anna!

Hurricane Matthew left widespread devastation in its path. Richmond County students have definitely taken notice!

With the help of our community, they were able to collect truckloads of supplies for our Robeson County neighbors just last week.

And, now, they’re taking #RaidersForRobeson one step further.

Highlighting the school colors of both Richmond Senior and Lumberton High, the RSHS Student Section has deemed this week’s theme as “Gold Out.”

Along with the school’s Beta Club and Senate, they’ll be selling maroon ribbons during the October 21st Home Football Game.

Additionally, the night’s 50-50 Raffle Tickets will go towards Robeson County.

The goal is to fill up gold buckets with money for our neighbors in need. Hence, we’re going for the gold!

All proceeds will be directly donated to the Public Schools of Robeson County.

Even though many Richmond County students were without power or water, as soon as they returned to the classroom they began looking for ways to aid their neighbors.

“Although we have had challenges in Richmond County, our neighbors in the east are facing much more difficulty,” said Superintendent Dr. Cindy Goodman.  “I am so proud of our schools and their willingness to help those in need.”

Collectively called Raiders for Robeson, 11 schools within the district are collecting items.  A “from our students to your students campaign,” they’re bringing in items like baby wipes, bottles of water, non-perishable foods, hand sanitizer as well as towels and washcloths.

And, they’re calling on community members to aid in their cause.

Donations can be dropped off between now and Friday, October 14th at the front offices of Richmond Senior High School, Richmond Early College, Richmond County Ninth Grade Academy, Ellerbe Middle School, Hamlet Middle School, Rockingham Middle School, Rohanen Middle School, Cordova School, Fairview Heights Elementary School, L.J. Bell Elementary School and Washington Street Elementary School.

Following Friday’s collection, there will also be a canned food drive during RSHS’s next JV Home Football Game.  A date has not been decided, but the Raiders will be playing Purnell Swett.

Our students’ safety is always our top priority. Therefore, due to the threat of inclement weather, the Richmond Senior High School Varsity Home Football Game originally scheduled for Friday has been moved to Thursday, October 6th at 7:30 PM. The in-school activities planned for RSHS will still occur on Friday Morning. And, weather permitting, the Homecoming Parade will be on Friday at 4:00 PM. We’re excited that this change in schedule will afford our football players the opportunity to participate in the Homecoming Parade.

The JV Game scheduled for tomorrow will now be played on Monday, October 10th in Raeford as decided by Hoke County Schools.

The Ninth Grade Academy’s Home Football Game will still be held tomorrow at 4:00 PM.

In every Senior Class, there is a handful of dynamic leaders that set the standards higher for the rest – in conduct and achievement, in the classroom and in extracurricular activities.

Without them, the Senior Class would have less luster. And, it is from this elite group that Richmond Senior High School has selected its Morehead-Cain Scholarship Nominees.

Congratulations certainly go to its nominees from the Class of 2017: Kenzie Ransom, Justin Smith, Prashill Thakar, and Jenna Staub.

Monroe Avenue would like to recognize its graduating class of 1966. Under the leadership of Ms. Della O. Murphy, Monroe Avenue High School alumni recently presented the Tigers with a donation for its clothes closet.

"My heart is truly full of gratitude to these graduates for seeing a need and meeting it," said Monroe Avenue's School Counselor, Stacey Fain.

The clothes closet provides basic uniform needs for Monroe Avenue's students and wouldn't be possible without our local organizations and their support.

Ensuring the students of Richmond County return to school with the supplies they need, Ellerbe High School’s Class of 1972 recently presented Mineral Springs Elementary School with a check for $1,000.

“We appreciate all of their kindness and support for our children,” said Principal Kate Smith.  “Their generous donation will go towards back-to-school supplies as well as additional classroom items that will be beneficial to our students.”
