spelling be

For the second time in three years, Isabelle Honeycutt’s been one of Richmond County Schools’ top 11 spellers.

In 2015 she represented L.J. Bell, while today the 7th Grader brings the Spelling Bee championship plaque back to Rockingham Middle School.

After six rounds, she correctly spelled the Bee’s final word, Alamo.

matthew

Please be advised that the day Richmond County Schools missed for Hurricane Matthew will now be made up on Monday, February 20th, 2017.  Originally, the district’s calendar has it scheduled as a Professional Development Day.  However, we hope this gives you plenty of time to make arrangements, as it will now be counted as a normal school day for all students and staff members.

birght ideas

Bright Ideas Grants provide funding for innovative, classroom-based projects that would otherwise not be possible.  Armed with balloons, goody bags and big checks, Pee Dee Electric employees visited two Richmond County Schools this Fall to recognize our educators.

Over at Mineral Springs, Mr. Chuck Wright will be integrating technology into his music program thanks to littleBits synth kits, while Mrs. Wanda Wiggins will be using her grant to create a technology based art program that merges robotics, art, math and scientific principles.

And, for the second year in a row, West Rockingham’s Mrs. Jill Buck has won a #BrightIdeas educational grant.  Her award will add additional computer science, coding and programmable robotics components to her library curriculum.

Congratulations to these three educators.  Your innovative ideas are certainly making Richmond County Schools a better place!

Ashley Chapel Educational Center’s principal, Mrs. Susan Brigman, was surprised with this month’s Inspiring Excellence Award during Tuesday Evening’s Board Meeting.

Brigman’s ideas are changing the culture of Ashley Chapel. She wants her students to be successful not only in the classroom but in life. And, it’s that dedication that most certainly contributed to Ashley Chapel’s graduation rates rising from 61.2% in 2015 to a whopping 75% in 2016.

Whether it be student field trips, more in-house guest speakers or redesigning the library to resemble a cool digital cafe, she’s all about giving her students unique opportunities to learn.

And, just this past Christmas Eve, Brigman, along with several staff members, left her family to ensure that 22 Ashley Chapel students had presents to open the next morning.

Plain and Simple…She cares about her students and is the epitome of the Inspiring Excellence Award.
