Internet Safety and Cyberbullying Activities and Lessons to be conducted during Internet Safety Week
Grade K-2
In collaboration with school guidance counselors, RCS Elementary Media Coordinators will conduct lessons on the following during Internet Safety Week.
Lessons will address the following:
1) Acceptable Use Policy – explanation, significance, and practice
2) Vocabulary –
a) password – a secret word or phrase used with username to grant access to computer and sensitive information online
b) cyberbullying – bullying or harshness that happens online
c) chat room – an online space to meet and exchange information
d) privacy – not sharing personal information online (address, phone number, location, plans, full name)
e) social networking - ability to use a website that allows you to build a profile and connect with others
Grade 3-5
In collaboration with school guidance counselors, RCS Elementary Media Coordinators will conduct lessons on the following during Internet Safety Week.
Lessons will address the following:
1) Discussion of situations and what to do
2) Students come up with slogan and make poster
3) Extended Activities:
In the computer labs students can use these sites to work independently through the
question on the following websites:
Grade 6-8
In collaboration with school guidance counselors, RCS Middle School Media Coordinators will conduct lessons on the following during Internet Safety Week.
Information safety
Cyberbullying
Sexting
Responsible social media (Facebook, Twitter, Edmodo)
AUP -correct use and consequences
We will use NetSmartz and Edmodo. Materials from Netcetera (
http://www.onguardonline.gov/ ) will be distributed to both teachers and students.
Publicity/information sharing will be done in collaboration with teachers and students
(bookmarks, poster contests, commercials).
Grade 9-12
RCS High Media Coordinators will sponsor the following internet safety and cyberbullying:
School news commercials to be broadcast on school television, Edmodo, or VBrick
Create bulletin boards
Conduct homeroom mini lessons
Provide lessons and opportunity for student produced internet safety brochures
Update Media Center webpage to reflect the timely issues and concerns
