Reassignment
Richmond County Schools has updated its Reassignment Policy after meetings and input from the school community. Reassignment request will only be approved if they meet the requirements listed in this policy. Below are several key points to review if requesting a reassignment for a student.
- ALL request for reassignment must be submitted no later than June 15, 2024. Completed reassignment forms can be turned in at any Richmond County school or the Richmond County Schools Central Office.
- Reassignment choices for staff do not include schools which require applications or referrals.
- If a student with disabilities receives a different school assignment under this policy, immediate family members of that student may attend the same school during the years the student with disabilities is assigned upon parent request. However, transportation will not be provided for the family member choosing to attend the same school.
- The transfer or reassignment is valid for no more than one school year.
- The parent or guardian is responsible for transportation.
- Any transfer or reassignment request that is approved based upon false or misleading information will be declared void and will be rescinded.
- Any student approved to attend a school out of their attendance zone must adhere to all Richmond County Schools policies, including but not limited to, attendance and code of conduct.
- During the 2024 - 2025 implementation school year of the new reassignment policy, students going into 5th or 8th grade at their previous school can remain at the school. The following year the student will transition to the age-appropriate school in their attendance zone. These students must still complete a reassignment form by June 15th.
- The superintendent or designee shall consider a hardship on the student or parent that the parent fully documented.
