K Registration

Kindergarten marks an important milestone for children and families, and Richmond County Schools is excited to welcome our newest learners for the 2026–2027 school year. Registration is the first step in beginning a child’s school experience and gives families the opportunity to visit the school, meet staff, and begin building connections ahead of the first day.

Kindergarten registration takes place at the student’s homeschool. Families who need help identifying their homeschool can use the Find My School tool at the link below.

Requirements for Enrollment

Students must attend registration with a parent or guardian. During the visit, children will take part in a brief, assessment activity that helps schools get to know them and support a smooth start to kindergarten.

In addition the following items are required for enrollment:

Helping Your Child Prepare for Kindergarten

Families play an important role in helping children feel confident and ready for kindergarten. Simple, everyday activities at home can support a smooth transition into school.

Building Early Reading Skills

  • Read together regularly and talk about pictures and stories

  • Point out letters and words in everyday places

  • Encourage children to retell familiar stories in their own words

Encouraging Early Writing

  • Provide crayons, pencils, and paper for drawing and writing

  • Talk with children about their drawings or “notes”

  • Let children see adults write for everyday purposes

Developing Early Math Skills

  • Count objects during daily activities like setting the table or cleaning up

  • Play simple games that involve numbers, shapes, or patterns

  • Use blocks, puzzles, or sorting activities to explore size and quantity

Supporting Independence

  • Practice zipping, buttoning, and managing clothing

  • Encourage children to open snacks and use utensils on their own

  • Give simple responsibilities at home to build confidence

Getting Ready for the First Day

  • Establish routines for bedtime and mornings

  • Talk positively about school and what to expect

  • Set aside time each day to talk about school experiences
