Update: April 15, 2026
At the April 14 Board of Education meeting, the Board voted to rescind the earlier action approving a middle school consolidation study.
The Board will now review and consider a range of possible cost-saving options before determining which options should move forward for further study. This could include studies related to school closure, program changes, reductions, and other potential adjustments.
No decisions have been made regarding school closures.
During the meeting, the Superintendent also shared that community members are welcome to share suggestions for cost-saving measures and continue submitting questions about the options being discussed through the link below.
This webpage will continue to be updated as information becomes available so the community can stay informed throughout the process.
At the March 24, 2026 Board of Education work session, the Board approved a recommendation to begin a school consolidation study focused on Richmond County’s middle schools. We recognize that discussions about our schools are deeply important to our community. Families, staff, and community members care deeply about these schools, and it is natural for conversations like this to bring questions and concerns.
The action taken by the Board begins a study. It is not a decision to close a school. The study will gather information about enrollment trends, facility capacity, and other measurable factors so the Board can better understand the potential impacts of consolidation. If consolidation were ever considered, the Board’s process would include additional discussion, public meetings, and opportunities for community input.
Because this topic has generated significant discussion, we have created this webpage to provide clear, factual information and answers to common questions. The site also includes a way for community members to submit additional questions or feedback.
This page will be updated as the study progresses so the community can stay informed and have access to accurate information throughout the process.
