Dr. Joe Ferrell

 Dr. Joe Ferrell was sworn in as Superintendent of Richmond County Schools on February 13, 2023. With nearly three decades in education, Dr. Ferrell has dedicated his career to serving the students of North Carolina.

Dr. Ferrell began his career in education as a 5th-grade teacher in his hometown of Roxboro, North Carolina. His passion for education led him into school administration, where he served as an assistant principal and principal for Guilford County Schools. In 2016, he was honored as Principal of the Year for the Alamance-Burlington School System while leading Walter M. Williams High School.

Dr. Ferrell continued his commitment to education as the Executive Director of Secondary Education with the Alamance-Burlington School System before being appointed Superintendent of Camden County Schools in 2017. During his tenure in Camden County, he was celebrated for his dedication to listening to the school community, creating an effective strategic plan, and being a primary leader in the construction of a new high school.

Dr. Ferrell holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Elon College, a Master of School Administration degree from North Carolina State University, and a Doctor of Education degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
