Facility Changes
The Richmond County Schools Board of Education will host a public hearing on Tuesday, November 12th at 5:00 PM at the Central Office to discuss proposed changes to school facilities. This hearing will allow the community to provide input on the changes planned for the 2025-2026 school year.
The proposed facility changes include:
►Closing Richmond Ninth Grade Academy (NGA): Richmond Ninth Grade Academy will be closed, and its students and staff will move to Richmond Senior High School. This will allow ninth-grade students to fully integrate into the high school environment, giving them access to all academic and extracurricular resources at the main campus.
►Relocating Monroe Avenue Elementary students: The current Monroe Avenue Elementary, built in 1953, requires substantial repairs, including a new roof. As part of the facilities plan, Monroe Avenue Elementary students will move to the current NGA site, which provides a more modern facility. An assessment of the necessary maintenance needed to prepare the current NGA facility for PreK and elementary students, will determine whether MAE will move for the start of the 2025-2026 school year or the 2026-2027 school year.
These changes are designed to improve student learning environments while reducing the district’s long-term operational and maintenance costs.
Individuals who wish to speak at the hearing must sign up for public comment at least 10 minutes before the meeting begins. A full report outlining the proposed changes .
